Why You Should Read the Mistborn Trilogy — Even If You Don’t Read Fantasy
You say swords with names, cruel kings and bearded magicians aren’t your thing? You say you don’t read fantasy? But you should read the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson , because it’s so much more than “just” fantasy, and also, totally not the kind you might be expecting (and dreading).
The Final Empire, in which the three novels are set, might seem like your classic fantasy setting. It is an empire in pre-industrial times with an evil Lord Ruler and an oppressed people. In the Final Empire, mists gather and clog the air, and ash falls from the sky almost constantly. Not a very comfy place at all.
But among this mess, there is a charismatic man, Kelsier, who gathers a crew of people to overthrow the Lord Ruler. Kelsier is not only a revolutionary, but also a powerful Mistborn — a person with a whole array of magical (or, as it is called in the novel, allomantic) powers. Among others, he recruits a poor young girl named Vin, who is also Mistborn, but doesn’t know it yet.
Together, the crew sets out on their mission to kill the Lord Ruler and overthrow the final empire. And this is all I am going to tell you about the plot.
